Officially announced Samantha to play lead in Tamil and Telugu remake of ‘U Turn’

2018 are going to be a busy year for Samantha and full of excitement for her fans. U-Turn will be Samantha’s 1stproject when she got married to Naga Chaitanya in October, last year. Samantha is currently awaiting the dischargeof Irumbuthirai. Samantha is also performing on Thyagaraja Kumaraja’s Super Deluxe. She also has Savithri’s biopic Mahanati in the pipeline.

Samantha: 2016’s critically-acclaimed Kannada indie hit U-Turn, which featured Shraddha Srinath in the lead role, is all set to be remade in Tamil and Telugu with Samantha Akkineni in the lead.

Even though it was long announced that Samantha can star within the remake, recent reports hinted that she was replaced by Nayanthara. putt all the rumors to rest, Samantha confirmed she’s doing the project via a tweet on Wednesday.

Samantha won both the Filmfare Award for Best Tamil actress and the Filmfare Award for Best Telugu actress within the same year, for her performances in films Neethaane En Ponvasantham (2012) and Eega (2012), respectively. Samantha has also starred in films like Dookudu, Yeto Vellipoyindhi Manasu, Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu and Attarintiki Daredi. Her work in 2016’s A Aa also won her a Filmfare Award.

U-Turn, directed by Lucia fame Pawan Kumar, revolves around the mystery behind the death of motorists who die tragic deaths when breaking traffic rules on a specific flyover in Bengaluru.

In January 2017, Samantha watched the film in a special screening in Bengaluru and immediately gave her nod. At one point, it was rumored that she was willing to provide the remake.

However, ever since the announcement, there was no development with regards to the project for an extended time. a few months later, rumors created the rounds that Nithya Menen was brought on board in place of Samantha and the project was supposed to go on the floors last year.

In November 2017, Pawan Kumar confirmed the project can roll from early 2018. Speaking to Indian Express, he said: “The regular shooting can commence from January next year. The pre-production work is presently underway. Since Samantha is part of the project, we’re getting to make it big.”

It’ll be a busy 2018 for Samantha whose 1st major release will be Vishal’s Irumbu Thirai. She also has Savitri biopic, Mahanati, apart from Vijay Sethupathi’s Super Deluxe and Sivakarthikeyan’s yet-untitled Tamil project with Ponram.

One of Kannada’s big hits u-turn is being remade into Tamil and Telugu. while it’s been speculated that Samantha is headlining the remakes, there was confusion as rumors spread that Nayanthara might be the heroine. However, SAMHSA now confirmed that she will be playing the lead role in both the Tamil and Telugu remakes. The actress further said that the project will press on floors during February. The remakes area unit being helmed by Pawan Kumar WHO directed the initial film as well. leading Shraddha Srinath, the film documents the journey of a journalist who tracks down a few deaths on a flyover. Incidentally, u-turn marked Shraddha’s debut in Kannada. The film was a hit, earning several awards for the Vikram Vedha girl.

Samantha has a busy 2018. Samantha, who tied the knot with her long-time beau Naga Chaitanya, has been working around the clock. The actress is awaiting the release of her film with Vishal, Irumbuthirai and is also working onThyagaraja Kumaraja’s Super Deluxe, the untitled project with Ponram-Sivakarthikeyan, Rangasthalam with Ram Charan and Savithri’s biopic Mahanati.

Samantha got married to Naga Chaitanya in Goa, last year. Soon after, the couple took off to London for their honeymoon and after their come back, rounded off the wedding festivities with a grand reception in Hyderabad.

‘Chayandsam’ as the couple is popularly known as had been co-stars of 2010 film Ye Maaya Chesave, their 1st film along, on the sets of that they fell in love.

A sneak peek of her role from Super Deluxe was unveiled recently. In a never-seen-before avatar, Samantha as Vaembu created many waves around the project. Incidentally, Vijay Sethupathi is playing a trans-man in the film. Irumbuthirai, which was initially scheduled for a Republic Day release, is now likely to release in February or March after Vishal agreed to let Jiiva’s Kee release, as a gesture to producer Michael Rayappan.

Prabhu confirmed the news on 24 January on her official Twitter page. The film will be directed by Pawan Kumar, who helmed the original Kannada version and Srinivasa of Silverscreen is producing it. Details about the technical crew and supporting cast will be revealed soon. This is the first project the actress has signed after tying the knot with Naga Chaitanya last October.

“The film will be wrapped up in three to four straight schedules. Samantha loved the movie when she watched it in a special screening almost a year back. Talks have been on and off for the past one year, and due to Samantha’s prior professional and personal commitments, the team decided to wait for her. Now, she has almost wrapped up all her ongoing assignments and is ready to begin U-Turn,” informs a source.
